So It’s The First Time Pampering Yourself
Friday, April 2nd, 2010Grow up as a girl you may have had some pretty conclusive ideas what it meant to become a woman. You swore you’d never replace a soccer ball with a make up kit, and you haven’t. You decided that you’re the kind of woman that goes to the game instead of the salon. That’s great. We all need the freedom to become the person we believe we are. Every now and then we can offer ourselves a little more by embracing the idea that we can have the best of both worlds.
Usually when you first realize that you need some anti aging wrinkle cream you also realize that a massage therapist works wonders after you’ve spent the afternoon waxing the car. You might consider skin peeling treatments and enhancing surgery to be going to far, but you’re up for a little tenderness here and there.
Sometimes we literally have such a cramped schedule that factoring in any personal time can be difficult. Many of us, despite being raised by the women of the 70s and 80s when our world changed, were still taught that being a good woman meant caring for their family first. This can be an exhausting task that requires a little extra tenderness from time to time. It can feel good to start giving your own needs a little attention. Instead of packing up your schedule so tightly every week, find one night, morning, or afternoon every week that you can just focus on you.
If you haven’t been able to find a slot on the calendar, it may have been something you did one purpose. Many women were taught that in order to be loveable they need to be useful. This is simply not the case. When we start with offering some of that live to ourselves, we expand our world in very new and exciting ways.
It’s true that single parents are going to have a much more difficult time making ends meet and creating some special time but it can be done. Sometimes you can solicit a few different friends or family members to babysit in a rotating fashion. You can also determine that you might not get to leave house two or three nights per week, but you can indulge in time that is made just for your own pampering.
Pampering is an odd concept to a lot of women. Many of us have negative connotations that come with the word thanks in part to conditioning. Whatever your idea of taking good care of yourself might be can be called pampering. Hot baths to massages to quiet time in the morning to develop some intricate make up skills can all qualify.
You simply become better at all of your jobs when you remember to care for you. Parenting to partnering to work creates demands on you that can be draining. Taking a little time to fill yourself back up is paramount to family and personal health.
